Goodbye to Smiley!! Margaret (left) with Smiley's new  owner, on the right. Little Smiley is on her way to a wonderful new home she will be able to romp and play in the country on a horse ranch. And, maybe she will come back to visit and join one of our group classes.

A very special thanks to Margaret's sister and husband, Sherrie and Eldon, for stopping and rescuing this little dog. No only did they save her life, but they have enhanced other lives as well.

Here's another candidate for luckiest little dog of the year. And her story is all too common. Margaret's sister and her husband were driving home on a busy country road when they saw a car pull over and throw out a little dog. Then the car sped off. They stopped and took almost a half an hour to catch the little dog. The poor thing was running down the road desperately trying to catch up to her car. They succeeded and the frightened little dog was safe. Although she couldn't understand why she was just tossed away.

But little pup's good fortune continued because that weekend she came with her new friends to Twin Cedar ranch. And she promptly made her way into our hearts and Second Chance program. She went from almost certain death under the wheels of a car or truck to a safe home and her first days in school.

It didn't take long for her to settle in. First we had to decide on a name. That was easy because she has a habit of smiling at anyone that comes to visit, so from now on she is officially named "Smiley"! And what a little sweetheart Smiley is. She is about six months of age and our best guess is she is a Basenji and Dachshund cross. She is very healthy and is now spayed. And the spaying was timely because she was in heat when picked up.

She loves anything that comes her way. She greatly enjoys her training sessions. Already she had a very nice heel position, knows how to sit when asked and almost knows to sit when you stop walking; an auto-sit.

It can be a challenge in the morning to put her collar and leash on. She is so full of enthusiasm and ready-to-go attitude that she'll zoom around in a circle while we try and fasten the buckle. Actually, snapping the collar in place would not be so difficult if not for laughing at her antics.

All she wants is a home where she will be treated kindly and loved. She was badly let down by heartless people, but she still wants to be someone's dog. Nothing special, just to be a loyal partner.  If you have room in your heart and home for a very happy little girl dog, please think about Smiley. She has more love in that little body than the biggest wolfhound. All she needs is a family to share it with.
