Miss Lucy Lu is Here!
Dec. 18, 2006
About a week ago our holidays were
brightened when our last Amador dog, Jack, meet his new owners
at the Feedbarn and went home. As always, we were a little sad
to see one of our guys go, but we look forward to our next
challenge. That was when Miss Lucy Lu arrived! She is a
beautiful 18 month old girl that is very happy to be here.
Her journey here was not so easy, however. She showed up at
the Amador shelter as a stray. On the one hand she was very
lucky to be picked up and brought in. Not all dogs are this
lucky and many meet a painful end. But Lucy Lu was not happy
in the shelter. One day her mood suddenly brightened and her
little tail came up and started wagging like crazy! It was her
owner! But her owner had a change of circumstances and
could not keep her, so the reunion was short lived and she was
officially surrendered to the shelter. A few weeks passed
and she did not get any happier. Then we had an opening and
the shelter staff sent her out to our school. At first, she
wasn't sure what had happened. But she soon brightened up.
Lucy Lu was especially delighted when she was moved to our
largest kennel and outdoor area where she got to run and play.
And, she got a roommate in our other Second Chance resident,
Kelly. Lucy and Kelly ran so much that we finally gave up
watching them and went back to work. Lucy Lu is a mix
between an Australian Shepherd, Rottweiler and maybe Shar-Pei,
plus probably some other stuff, too. She is about 18 months
young, very healthy, current on all vaccinations (including
heartworm preventative) and is spayed. Did we say she is
happy? She loves her training sessions, especially
working in the group classes with the other dogs.
Here Lucy Lu is learning to heel and walk nicely on lead.
Look at her expression... she could do this all day! She is
also learning to sit and down when asked and hold her
position, also called 'stay'. So,
if you are considering adding a happy, energetic dog to your
family, please consider Miss Lucy Lu! She is ready for a new
home where she will be loved and never have to run stray
again!
