Ms Puka gets her home!

Ms. Puka Arrives!
We were so happy with Que's progress that when he left last week,
we thought we would never see a nicer Pit Bull. Well, we should
never say never because here comes Ms. Puka to prove us wrong. She
is from the Amador shelter, about 5 years old, spayed and current
on all vaccinations. She is also currently on heartworm
preventative.
She had been at the shelter for too long and was getting tired
of the jail routine. She was going crazy, so the staff was
relieved when she left for school!
During her short stay we have found her to be a truly nice
little girl. And she has lots of character. Puka is small,
probably about 40 pounds, but very muscular. In the group classes
everyone calls her Arnold Schwartzenpuppy! And she has an old scar
in her face that gives her a funny smile. But she thinks she is
beautiful, and we do too!
After giving her a day to settle in,
she moved into the large kennel. At first she wasn't sure what to
do with all the space, but soon she was romping all over. Although
she did not like the pool too much, she could not quit running
around.
Next, we assessed how she would get
along with other dogs. No problem, she even had a roommate for a
little while. Our other Second Chance resident, Max the hound mix
puppy, romped with her. Puka had lots of fun, but was not too
thrilled with his advances. Max is not quite a year old and still
intact. But Puka is a lady and said "no" in a firm but polite
manner. Max got the message and they got along just fine.
It's not all fun and games in school,
so Puka is getting the training all our dogs get. She is doing
well and learning fast. As of this writing, she knows how to heel
and walk nicely on a lead, she will sit and lay down when asked.
She comes when called and is working on the finishes. She
participated in our weekend group classes and performed very well,
even with all the distractions.
Puka is a love-bug that would do best
in a home where she is a member of the family. A nice bed on the
floor where she can be with the family is all she asks. She would
get along well with other dogs, but not cats. Although she is very
trainable and might learn to ignore cats, we would not declare her
to be cat safe and would therefore not recommend her to a home
with cats. A less active and perhaps adult home is her perfect
arrangement. She could easily learn to be a world-class cough
potato.
If you are looking for a special
dog that is past the puppy mischief stage, Puka is ready to meet
you! Please give us a call at (209) 267-9186 or email to
info@twincedark9.com to
make a date to meet her. She is just waiting for her home!
