Buster
is our latest Second Chance dog and resident goof ball. He
comes to us from the Calaveras Humane Society via the Amador
Shelter. He's a lucky guy that dodged a bullet and is still
alive because of good folks coming together.
We first met
Buster during a training and handling session we held for the
CHS folks at the Calaveras shelter. We used him as an example
because of his horrible manners. But after about five minutes
of work, he proved himself to be a happy guy that just wanted
to play.
But he had reached the end of
his rope at the shelter, so the CHS pulled him. But their
foster program was full and our Second Chance kennels were
full as well. So the Amador Shelter came to the rescue,
literally, and accepted him. He could breath easy now
because the Amador shelter makes every effort to place all
their dogs and goes the extra mile to find them all homes.
Buster loved the folks at Amador, but he was way too
rambunctious. He jumped on everyone, ran around like crazy and
just got worse manners.
When our Jango found his home
we had room for Buster, much to the relief of the Amador
staff! Here at the ranch with training and exercise Buster has
learned that good manners get him the attention, play and
affection that he wants. His happiness is something to see
whenever anyone goes to take him for a walk. And he was most
delighted when he moved into our largest area with his own
roommate, Penny!
Buster is an English Coon Dog
mix, about one to two years old. He is neutered, current on
all vaccinations and currently on heartworm preventative. He
weights about 55 pounds. He has short hair that is very easy
to maintain.
He loves his training sessions
and is doing very well. Already he knows how to walk on a
loose lead, heel, sit and down when asked. He holds these
positions well. With a little more practice he would easily
qualify for an AKC Canine Good Citizen award.
Buster will do
best in a home where he gets lots of exercise and play. Older
children to throw a ball and run with him would be ideal. He
loves to go for long walks or hikes. Camping would be his
dream activity, but as with all hounds, he should be kept on
lead until his training is complete and well settled into his
new home.
If you are
looking for a happy playful young dog to join your family, please give us
a call at (209) 223-3194 or email

He can't wait to meet new friends and is ready to show off all
he has learned and maybe take you for a walk around the ranch.
But watch out if you come to see him... he might just wind up
going home with you!
