Update: March 31st, 2009

Gomer aka Shane is off to his new home in Sheep Ranch in Calaveras County.

Gomer came to us as a total wild child that nobody wanted to be around. It took hours of training and socialization from a whole team of trainers and volunteers but in the end, Gomer turned out to be the Diamond we knew he was.

He gets to live on ten fenced acres and has a Border Collie buddy to romp and play with. He will also have a few llamas to protect as well. Gomer has definitely been one of the most challenging dogs to come through our program but perseverance paid off. Good luck Gomer and please!! Remember your manners, be a good boy in your new home.

Shane Arrives at Twin Cedar

Shane, a 1 year old Lab/Border Collie cross was brought to the ranch by Calaveras Humane Society for an evaluation.  He has been at the Calaveras Animal Services for five weeks and was a total wild child.  Shane makes all of our most obnoxious  Second Chance dogs look like the best dogs on the planet.

Shane had been evaluated by the Sacramento SPCA and refused because they thought he was dog aggressive.  In our evaluation we determined that he was not aggressive but just a very pushy, get in the other dogs face kind of boy.  He has not been neutered yet so that does not help with his behavior.

Shane has absolutely "NO" manners and is a very powerful strong dog.  We know that down deep in his personality there is a truly nice dog, so he was put in our Second Chance Program.  Since that day, Shane has shown improvement but is still working on his good manners.  Once he respects his handler, you can see the good side of this very pretty boy.  He is very sweet and affectionate once he settles down.

Shane loves all people including children but due to his over exuberant side he should go to a family without children or one with older children.  He has also shown that he gets along very well with other dogs and once he is neutered he should be fine with both male and female dogs

Shane's obedience training is coming along nicely.  He has a very nice heel and auto sit.  He is working on a willing down and will stay in a sit and down.   He will come when called and is learning both the finish left and right.  He will wait at all doorways and for his food.  Shane's biggest problem  continues to be his jumping on any new people that he meets but with time we are sure that behavior will go away.

Shane is looking for a home with room for him to run and play and a family to love him.  Shane is current on all of his vaccines, is on heartworm prevention and will be neutered before he goes to his new home.  If you think Shane is the dog for you, please give us a call to set up an appointment to meet our Wild Child.  He truly is a diamond in the rough.
