Update: May 5th, 2009
Our little girl Sandy has found the most perfect home.
Our very special girl Sandy is off to her forever home. Congratulations to Steven and Susan Travers of Elk Grove, you have adopted one awesome dog. Steven and Susan have a 5 year old German Shepherd mix named Bear that Sandy will be able to play with when she is not busy with her two legged pack!
Sandy will be coming back to Twin Cedar K-9's AKC CGC (Canine Good Citizen) class later this month. We are sure Sandy will pass the CGC test with flying colors. Good luck Sandy and we will see you next week in class.

Sandy Returns to Twin Cedar K-9.
I was contacted by the Amador County Animal Control and Adoption Center to see if I was interested in taking a 18 month old Catahoula mix into my program. The female dog was an owner surrender and the previous owners had nothing nice to say about this dog.
They stated that she had no training and went as far to say that she was untrainable. She rebelled against any kind of correction, that she was a destructive chewer, digger, jumped on the children, was a howler, barker and could not be contained in any yard.
Since obnoxious ill behaved dogs are our specialty out here at Twin Cedar K-9, Sandy was brought out to us by shelter staff.
As soon as I saw Sandy I immediately recognized her from coming through our program in August 2008.
At that time, Sandy was the most affectionate and willing dog that we had come through the program in a very long time.
She trained up beautifully and when she was adopted (by the family that surrendered her) she knew how to heel, auto sit, down, stay and come.
The profile they had put on the surrender papers just didn't fit this dog. Sandy was so happy to see me, she could hardly contain herself. I put a training collar and leash on her and out to the obedience filed we went.

Well, within five minutes, Sandy was doing all the obedience that she learned last year. So much for untrainable!! As you can see from the pictures, Sandy has a very nice focused heel, she knows her auto sit, down from the side and front and she will stay in a sit or down. |
She also comes when called. The only time we have heard Sandy bark is when she is playing with her roommate Roo.
Sandy is a very playful dog that is full of energy. She is looking for a home where she will have room to run. She is good with other dogs but she does play a little rough and dominantly. Sandy adores children and gets along well with cats.
Sandy may have some separation anxiety issues so she should go to a home where she will not be left alone for more than a few hours at a time.
