Update: March 16, 2009

Great news here at Twin Cedar Ranch.

Our little shy girl Hailey has found the most wonderful home.  Her new family is a retired (kind of) couple that are home all of the time to give Hailey every thing she needs.  She will have acreage to run and play on and a great buddy to go on long walks with.

Hailey is a very sweet and special little girl who deserves this second chance in life.  Good luck Hailey and keep in touch with all of the friend that you made while you were here at the ranch.

March 5th, 2009

Twin Cedar K-9 Second Chance Program welcomes "Hailey" to the ranch.

Hailey is a very sweet but shy 2 year old Border Collie/Australian Shepherd cross.  She was surrendered to the Amador County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center by her family along with one of their other dogs.  They stated she did not get along well with the dog that they kept.

Other than being a little fearful of other dogs here at the ranch, we have not seen any signs of aggression towards them.  She has even been kenneled with other dogs and romps and plays with all of them.

Hailey is definitely shy when she first meets new people but warms up quickly.  She seems to enjoy her obedience training and in less than a week she already knows how to wait at doorways, heel, auto sit, down from the side and from the front and how to stay in a sit and down.  She is working on recalls (coming when called) finish right and left.  She has even started to learn some more difficult behaviors like "in motion sit" and "in motion down".  She seems to be a very fast learner.

Hailey was a bit afraid of T.C. our kitty volunteer who helps us test our second chance dogs with cats, so we do not think living with cats would be a problem for Hailey.  When she was in the house for the kitty test, Hailey was very calm and polite.  She made no attempt to "counter surf" or to climb on the furniture however, per her surrender papers she was allowed on the furniture and slept in bed with her owner.  They also stated that is house broken and that she rides well in the car and loves to play fetch.

They also stated that she had been raised around children from the ages of newborn to age 10 and that she was fine with their children but afraid of children that she did not know.  Because of the fear issue, Hailey should go to a home without children for with children over the age of 13.

If you are interested in Hailey please give us a call to set up an appointment to come to the ranch to meet this very sweet little girl.
