Here
is a very special little girl. Mercedes is a female Bull Terrier
puppy that is probably the luckiest dog in the world! She left her
litter and went to a home where she was loved and taken care of.
But, things happen and her encounter with the cat resulted in a
scratch that ended up with losing an eye. Her owner cared very
much and saw her through all the veterinary expenses and process
to make sure she healed properly. Then, she managed to jump off a
balcony. Even though there was good fencing, she found a way to
make the leap. This time, she ended up with a badly broken front
leg elbow joint.
How can this make her lucky? Well, often
tales like this have a sad ending, but not this time! Her owner
brought Mercedes to the vet to see what could be done to fix her
elbow. But, when the diagnosis indicated specialized surgery was
required the expense of the surgery and specialized hospital
recovery time was more than her owner could afford, Mercedes had
to be given up and her short life ended. But at the final moment,
her primary vet (and guardian angel) took over Mercedes and paid
for the special surgery and began the recovery therapy.
Mercedes quickly did her best to pay back all the expensive care
by earning her way into everybody's heart. She hobbled around the
clinic in her cast and did her best to keep all the staff laughing
at her antics.
As
she got better and her bones mended her cast was removed. And she
continued growing in size and personality, as puppies do. Despite
her physical limitations, Mercedes had no shortage of mischief
making ability. So, the time came for training and her guardian
angel came through again and training started. So, now Mercedes
shares her days between hanging out at the clinic and romping and
training out at Twin Cedar K9. Lucky Mercedes gets picked up every morning and heads
out the training center for her work day. She is doing very well
and is making the most out every minute.
Already she knows how to sit when asked,
walk (in her own way) nicely on a leash and will come running
asked. Her recall is very impressive because she comes running at
her best speed and sits right in front of you at your feet. She is
learning that no jumping, play biting or bad manners are allowed.
But good manners gets her praise, affection and the play time she
loves so much.
Currently, she is learning to lie down
when asked and is starting on off lead work. She learns very
quickly because of her great temperament and desire to please.
Every dog needs a job, and Mercedes is no exception. Kindness and
affection are her paycheck. And a little play never hurts!
Just smile and call her name and she
comes running. She may have that pirate look with only one eye and
with her leg she won't win any races, but don't tell her that she
is missing anything! She is all about being a puppy and sharing
all she was to give with you.
All she needs now is her very own family
and home. Her new owners will have to be able to take care of her
and understand her limitations. We also will ask her new folks to
follow up with whatever care she may require. If you have room in
your heart and home for a very special little girl, Mercedes might
be your new dog. Take good care of her and she will hold up her
end of the bargain and more!
