Dante left for his new home
today! The lucky guy found a great home where he will be loved.
That's all he ever wanted.
Congratulations Dante, you did
very well! Hopefully we'll get to see you again for a visit or
maybe a group class.

The Second Chance kennel was not empty long, our newest resident
Dante came today! He is a really happy and sweet guy. It didn't
take him to settle right in. He's about six months old or so and
is a Border Collie German Shepard mix. There's probably other
breeds mixed but that doesn't stop him from being a handsome boy,
at least in our opinion.
He came from the good folks at the Amador County Animal Shelter.
He was reported running loose on a remote back road near
Fiddletown. When the person from the shelter when out there
is was his lucky day because he ran up and jumped in. He could not
understand why he was just dumped out there, but still had
that trust that so may dogs have. He was taken back, given a badly
needed meal and drink of water. Then the shelter staff and
volunteers, sensing what a good boy was hidden under all the dirt
and burrs, called us. He was brought out and welcomed into the
program.

We've been working with Dante for about
a week now and two words sum up the experience: smart and willing.
He is such a pleasure! All he wants to do is learn, work and be
with you. Already he heels and auto-sits like a veteran. He will
lie down when asked, whether from at your side or from the front.
He comes when called and (mostly) comes right up and sits down
right in front of you. Then he will move to the heel position when
you ask. All is done with a happy and up attitude. He is saying
"How about that?!" with a big smile when he nails each one of his
moves.
He is also working on his manners.
Finishing school is a big part of the Second Chance program and
Dante is learning how to be a good citizen and partner. For
example, he is learning not to charge out the door when opened,
not to pull on the leash when he does exit and to sit quietly
while "getting dressed" with his collar and leash to go out.
In every sense of the word, he is a
gentleman. So much fun to work with and just a pleasure to be
around. And the most amazing part is that he's not even a year old
yet!
