Here's a lucky little dog that got his second chance at life. Max is off to his new home and family with barely a look back. Good luck, Max! Hopefully you can come back for a visit sometime!

Mr. Max

Mr. Max our latest Calaveras Humane Society student has just arrived and he's a great guy! Max is very healthy and looks like a Jack Russell on steroids! But he is really is a cross between a hound, probably a Walker Hound, and a Jack Russell terrier. He is likely about a year and a half old, just recently neutered and current on all vaccinations.  He is heartworm negative and on preventive.

Max has been in training for about three days now, and although started with a pretty hard head, as soon as he got into the swing of things he is doing much better .  The challenge is for Max to learn the behavior that gets him affection and praise.  That's all he ever really wanted, and he found out that by trying hard and doing as asked, earns him the attention and love he wants.

Here, Max is learning the basics of walking on a loose lead at the heel position. Although he started out a little ahead, he soon learned to walk right next to us.  Our emphasis is on walking with the lead loose. When he feels any tension, Max's job is to move to the handler to release the tension. Now he is walking with us, not taking us out for a drag.  That and sociability are the main things we teach here in Second Chance school.  It seems simple, but when he learns these basic skills he has also learned to listen. And that is what makes a good dog and partner.

But what Max really wishes for is his own family to love and care for him. He has had enough of shelters and kennels. He is doing well in school and likes life on the ranch, but when we are done and he goes to his kennel for the night, he hopes someday that he'll be going into the house with you to settle on his bed to watch TV or just enjoy a warm place on a cold night. Maybe even get a treat or two before bedtime.

If you're looking for a very handsome and happy guy to join the family, please think about Max!  If you'd like to come and meet Max, please call us at (209) 223-3194 or drop an e-mail to info@twincedark9.com.  He would be very happy to meet you and go for a walk and play for a while.
