Feb. 2007

Our little Kelly finally gets her home. She first came in Nov. 2005, and was adopted a few weeks later. She left, but her owner lost interest and returned her to the shelter and we got her back in Dec. 2006. She almost joined a search and rescue agency but was not accepted and was returned after a whirlwind trip from Twin Cedar to Sacramento, to Gilroy and back to us. She stood strong throughout all the travels and now has a good loving home. And well deserved. Good Luck, Kelly!

Kelly arrived and brighten things up around here! She is about two years old and is an Australian Kelpie mix. Kelly is a real sweetheart and full of energy and a tail-wagging great attitude! She is spayed and current on all shots and heartworm preventative. She comes to us from the folks at the Amador County Animal Shelter. They saw the potential in Kelly, and they were right!

Her training has gone very well. She looks forward to each lesson with enthusiasm and standing at the gate of her kennel. And stand up she can! In fact, if you come to visit she'll do the hula for you at the gate!

Already she knows how to heel at your side and go where you do with a loose lead. She knows to sit from your side and from the front as well as down from both positions. She is stilling how to stay in her latest position, but she should master that soon.

True to her cattle dog breeding she is full of energy and curiosity. Every trip seems to be a new adventure filled with new smells and sights. She is working on her recalls now. While she comes when called, she will need a fenced yard when left alone to be sure she is safe.  And when traveling with you, practicing recalls and other training will benefit her greatly.

She responds happily to praise! She is especially proud when nails a move that you've asked for.  Here she is with Margaret showing how well she heels. Notice the attentive look she has, that is what it is all about for her; working for you. All dogs need a job and this is most important for working dogs like Kelly. When traveling and walking with you she thrives. She would not do well as a backyard dog or a couch potato.

Camping, romping on a ranch or being a partner and going for a walk around town with you are her dreams. She is very attentive and loves to learn new games. She also does well and is very social with other dogs. Recently she spend a lot of time playing and sharing a large area with Thunder, another Second Chance resident. Although she misses Thunder, who recently for found his new home, she looks forward to group classes or working with the other dogs on the ranch.

Did I say she loves to play? She will play for hours, then curl up and lie down and wait for the next session! If there are any squeaky toys around, watch out! She'll find them and romp around squeaking everywhere.

So, if you are looking for an active, happy, energetic little girl, then Kelly might just be your dog! Please drop us an email or call us at (209) 223-3194 if you would like more information or to come out and meet Miss Kelly. You won't be disappointed, and maybe she'll do the hula for you!
