October 9th, 2009 - Update

Our wonderful boy Maximus is off to his new home in Roseville to be a loving companion for a very special person.

He even has a new little buddy (he isn't quite sure what she is…) but likes her anyway, and a huge yard to protect.  We are sure that he will be spoiled rotten.

We will miss this big guy here at the ranch.  He made many friends in the short time he was here.

Maximus Arrives at Twin Cedar

Our big and beautiful boy Maximus hails from the Amador County Animal Control and Adoption Center.  Max is 6 years old and looks like he is an Australian Shepherd, Border Collie cross with something else that is big mixed in.

Poor Maximus was an owner surrender to the shelter when his previous owner lost his home, ended up in the hospital and was no longer able to care for Maximus and 5 other dogs.

Maximus was very fearful when he first arrived at Twin Cedar Ranch.  He would not let anyone near him and he just stayed by his swimming pool in a hole that he had dug into the dirt.  He wouldn't eat or play ball either.

As frightened as Max was, once he had a collar and
leash on, he loved to go for long walks.  It was on
these long walks that Maximus learned that he could
trust people.

In the past three weeks max has turned into the
sweetest dog!  He loves to come out and practice
his obedience which he is quite good at, and to just
hang out with people and the other ranch dogs.

Maximus was very good in the house when we brought him in to test him with T.C. our house cat.  Max was very polite with the kitty, giving her gentle nuzzles and a few puppy dog kisses.  T.C. says YUCK!!

Max would be the perfect dog for an older person or couple that does not want to go through puppy hood or have to deal with a high drive dog.  He is a good watch dog and does not appear to have any destructive behavior.

He is also very good with children of all ages.  Maximus still shows some fear of big men wearing evil hats but once he knows they mean him no harm, he warms up quickly.  He is content to be outside but would love to be a "house dog".

Give us a call or send an e-mail to come out to meet Mr. Maximus.
