Update: June 1st, 2010

Today is one of those days that makes everything we do out here worth it.

Bonnie has been in and out of our program several times, no fault of her own, in the past year. She came back to us the first time when her owner passed away after a short battle with cancer.

Her second owner had a family member become quite ill and she no longer had the time to give Bonnie what she needed so Bonnie came back to us again.

The third adoption only lasted a week because Bonnie did not want to share her people with their other dog Gonzo, sooooo….. back she came again!

We received an e-mail from a parent looking for a dog that could become a service dog for her 9 year old Autistic son.

Bonnie was so good with Jim her fisrt owner that was a quadriplegic, I thought this could possibly be a perfect home for her. Allison, Ethan and Ethan's brother Braden came out from Pollock Pines to meet Bonnie.

Well let me tell you, there was not a dry eye on the ranch. Bonnie emmedietly went to Ethan and never left his side.

I have enclosed a portion of the e-mail that Allison sent us after Bonnie's first night with Ethan.

Today Ethan met his new best friend, Bonnie. She's an amazing dog who has an even more amazing story. She's gone from being on deathrow to becoming a valuable service dog. Her previous "person" was a man in a wheelchair who sadly recently passed away. Bonnie has been patiently waiting for a new person to help.

We went today to Twin Cedars (k9 training facility) today. As soon as the car stopped Ethan was out the door running. He imediatly went to Bonnie and hugged her. He grabbed her leash and they were off exploring. He was so calm and collected not overstimulated and listened to directions wonderfully.

It was a busy day learning her commands which she does amazingly well (I asked where to put the batteries). Ethan is now able just after one day to perform three commands and lead her properly! He also was talking up a storn today and trying new words and sounds!! John and I took her to date night to practice some of her commands in public and she was excellent! She's such a pro even at the resturant! John is already in love as well all are.

Tonight Ethan had his first slumber party with his new friend. She took one look at the bed I made her on the floor, looked up at Ethan and hopped in bed with him. Ethan went to bed without getting up once and fell asleep petting her as she snored! It was priceless!!!

Update: May 10, 2010

Bonnie was adopted last year by a wonderful man who loved her very much. Jim had been a quadriplegic for 30 years and Bonnie was just what he needed to fill his life with love and companionship. About five months ago Jim was diagnosed with cancer and went to Southern California for treatment. Two weeks ago he lost his battle.

In the few short months that Jim had Bonnie, he told us she was the best dog anybody could ever hope for. She is housebroken, good in the house, stays in her fenced yard, is good with kids and cats. Bonnie is a very affectionate girl who loves to be around people and other dogs.

Bonnie has roomed with numerous Second Chance and board and train dogs. As you can see, she is a real snuggle bug that just wants to hang out with her people and doggie pals. Bonnie gets credit for being the most quiet dog that we have had come through the Second Chance Program.

She knows all of her basic obedience, although it is not her favorite thing! She loves to be a couch potato and just hang out with her people. When she is not clowning around (her favorite position is wiggling around on her back with her feet straight up in the air) she does quite well.

If you have room in your heart for this awesome little dog please give is a call and come out to meet her, we promise you won't regret it.

Update: June 10, 2009

Our very sweet little girl Bessie is off to her new home in Pine Grove. Her new owner Jim has given her the new name "Bonnie".

Jim had to put his beloved Cocker down in March at the age of 13 and has been very lonely since that time. Jim is home most of the time so Bonnie will be living the good life now and she will not have to share Jim with any other animals either.

She has a beautiful fenced yard and a doggy door to use when ever she wants to go outside.

When the weather is nice, Bonnie will be going on long walks around the neighborhood with her new best buddy.

As you can see, she has settled in nicely. Good luck Bonnie, we will come to visit you when we are in the neighborhood.

We will miss your smiling face here at the ranch.

Bessie Arrives at Twin Cedar

Bessie has come to us from the folks at Calaveras Humane Society. This little girl was picked up as a stray and it is obvious that she had recently had a litter of puppies. Bessie looks like she is a cross between a Lab and a Boxer and is about 3 years old.

When she went to the vet for her spay surgery, Dr. Allen told us that Bessie has probably had at least three litters of puppies. Her puppy raising days are now over and she can become the loving pet that she wants to be.

Bessie is a very affectionate girl who loves to be around people and other dogs. She is currently rooming with our Amador boy Poncho, and they get along beautifully. She loves to run and play with Poncho and one of our board & train dogs Flossie.

She hasn't barked once since she has been here even when the other dogs are barking. She has started her obedience training after having a seven day recovery period for her spay and is coming along nicely.

She has been introduced to a wait command for her food and doorways, heel, auto sit, down, stay and come. When she is not clowning around (her favorite position is wiggling around on her back with her feet straight up in the air) she does quite well. It is obvious that she has not had any training prior to coming here but is willing to try anything we ask of her.

Bessie is looking for her forever home where she can have a secure yard to keep her safe and a family to lavish her with all of the love she missed out on in her previous life. She is a very special dog that has won the hearts of all of the Twin Cedar K-9 staff and volunteers in a very short period of time.

If you would like to meet this great dog, give Marge` a call at 209-223-3194 or e-mail her at Margaret@TwinCedarK9.com to get more information or to set up an appointment to meet little Bessie.
