June 17, 2011 - Update

Today is a very special day out here at Twin Cedar Ranch. Our special, big, beautiful, wonderful, goofy, broken, awesome, (have I left anything out) treasure of a dog Leroy Brown is off to his new home in Elk Grove.

We were looking for a special person and home for him that didn't mind adopting a dog that only had one good leg. His new mom is just what we were looking for. She will be providing Leroy with every need that comes along, medically and emotionally.

Leroy in return is guaranteed to make her laugh every day with all of his goofy antics. Leroy will be coming back to visit on a regular basis to take in a pack walk with all of his old buddies and participate in some group classes.

There wasn't a dry eye on the ranch when Leroy drove out the driveway. Leroy, we all will miss you!!

May 20, 2011 - Update

Our big goofy boy Leroy has finished his heartworm treatment and has started his obedience training. As soon as we started working with Leroy and taking him on our evening pack walks we noticed him limping and favoring his right front leg.

We took him to Jackson Creek Vet and had Dr. Bob checked him over and X-rayed his elbow. The bad news is that Leroy has very severe arthritis in his elbow. His left elbow is fine!! Dr. Bob prescribed Tramadol to help with the pain and inflammation and Leroy immediately started walking and running much better.

We adopted Leroy out to a person who was willing to give him a good home even though she knew he had the bad elbow. His new owner took him to the vet for a checkup and had his hips X-rayed. Those films showed that Leroy also had old injuries to both rear knees and his left hip isn't great either. She was willing to take a dog with one bad leg but after just going through the loss of her old dog, she didn't feel she was up to caring for a dog that only had one good leg.

Dr. Bob feels that Leroy is an adoptable dog and should do fine on medications for at least 5-7 years. He just needs to go to a home that is looking for a very sweet, affectionate, lovable & goofy couch potato! If Leroy sounds like he is the dog for you please give us a call.

Leroy Brown Arrives at Twin Cedar

Leroy Brown is currently in foster care here at the ranch while he goes through his heartworm treatment. He will not be available for adoption for another few weeks and then at that time we would like to do some obedience work with him prior to adopting him into a new home.

Leroy is a 2 year old Newfodore Retriever. That would be a Newfoundland/Lab cross that is just the neatest boy you would ever want to meet. Basically, Leroy looks like an oversized Lab with a soft coat.

At this time because of his treatments, we have not been able to do any obedience training with him and he has terrible manners.

What he lacks in manners he makes up for with his personality. He is a real lover boy that adores everybody he meets. He seems to get along well with the other dogs that he meets when he gets out for his short walks, but he has not been allowed to play with any of them yet.

We cannot wait until we can get him out and start his obedience work and let him go on our evening pack walks with the rest of the gang.

If you are interested in meeting Leroy, please give us a call to set up a time to come out to the ranch. He just loves company!
