March 11th, 2010 - Update

Gunner arrived at the ranch a month ago as a total wild child and today he is off to his new home in Santa Rosa as a totally reformed boy.

The changes he made in such a short period of time are amazing. It is too bad that his previous owners made the decision to abandon him, tying him to a gate leaving him to an unknown future, rather than providing a little bit of training and keeping this wonderful dog.

Their loss, and his new owners gain!! Gunner will have a large fenced yard, a little pug friend to play with, a cat and two great people who will provide him with his every need.

Good luck Gunner, be good, and don't choke on any Santa Rosa gophers!

Gunner Arrives at Twin Cedar

Mr. Gunner hails from the Amador County Animal Control and Adoption Center. He is approximately 6 years old and looks like he is a Lab/Golden Retriever cross.

When he first arrived he was a total "Wild Child"!!!!!!!! Obnoxious and rude behavior is an understatement when the shelter staff described him to me. For the first week he was here at the ranch all I could do was try to think up reasons for the shelter to take him back.

Well….with persistence on my part, Gunner and I came to an
understanding! He has now turned into the most wonderful
dog a person could ask for. He is very polite, affectionate,
sweet and loving, and the best part… he now loves his
obedience training.

Chris, a shelter volunteer who also helps out with training our Second Chance dogs, cannot believe the changes Gunner has made in such a short period of time. She even accused me of switching him out with a look-a-like dog!

It really is to bad that his previous owners dumped him at the main gate of North Shore Camanche, leaving him to an unknown future and did not provide him with training instead.

Their loss is someone else's gain! In the two short weeks that Gunner has been here, he has mastered a perfect heel, auto sit, down from the side and front on hand signals only, recall to a front sit and both finishes.

I have not tested Gunner with cats but he gets along very well with all of the dogs, male and female that he has been kenneled with.

Gunner loves all the people he has met young and old. Gunner loves to run and play ball, he just hasn't mastered the part where he needs to bring it back to whoever threw the ball.

If you have room in your heart and home for this great boy, please give us a call or send an e-mail to set up an appointment to come out to meet him. I am sure he will win you heart the way he has ours.
